  • About 80% of new mothers experience the baby blues in the first few weeks after the baby arrives.

  • 1 in 7 mothers (1 in 10 fathers) experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy or postpartum.

  • Perinatal mood disorders and anxiety (PMADS) can happen anytime during pregnancy and throughout the first year postpartum.

  • Symptoms can include:

    • feelings of guilt and shame

    • hopelessness

    • anger & rage

    • loss of interest in things you once found pleasurable

    • difficulty bonding with baby or lack of interest

    • sleep and appetite disturbances

    • racing thoughts, extreme worry of baby

    • flashback regarding pregnancy or delivery

    • physical symptoms can include dizziness or heart palpitations
